Cherry Bon Bons

Emily’s Cherry Bon Bons

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • 1/2 c. margarine or butter
  • 3/4 c. sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1 T. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries
  • Food coloring

Icing:

  • 1 c. confectioners sugar
  • 2 T. cream or milk
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • Food coloring

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Beat butter, sugar, vanilla, and food coloring together until light and fluffy
  3. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix into a dough (if dough is too dry/crumbly add cream or milk 1 T. at a time)
  4. For each cookie, wrap 1 level T. of dough around one cherry to form a ball
  5. Bake 1 inch apart on baking sheet (a pizza stone works best if you have one) for 12-14 minutes till set, not brown
  6. After cookies are completely cool, dip the tops of cookies into icing
  7. Sprinkle colored sugar on top
  8. Let cookies sit out until completely set
  9. Enjoy!

Extra tip: Use a bit of the cherry juice from the jar of cherries in your icing or dough. It will help your dough become more malleable and give your icing an added flavor.
